Wig Consultation Process

Our Wig Process

THE CONSULTATION

We understand that hair loss can feel a upsetting to some children and we take great pride in accommodating your needs and making your child feel at ease. If you have any concerns or worries please do get in contact with us prior to your consultation and we will ensure that we will do everything in our power to put them at ease.

All of the consultations take place in a private treatment room away from the main salon area. The private room is not very large so we ask that only two people come in with the child. The consultation usually takes approximately 15-30 minutes, and offers you the opportunity to discuss your requirements and to ask any questions you may have. If you do feel that 30 minutes will not be long enough please state this when booking and we will happily mark out more time out of the diary.  This service is free, no-obligation consultation and is a very important part of the hair replacement and wig process.

If the child has not been diagnosed and currently has ongoing hair loss, it is strongly advised that you seek medical attention to ensure you have a diagnosis when attending your consultation. AshleyMarie has six years experience in Hair Loss, however she is not medically qualified to give a diagnosis or medical opinion.

At your consultation, we will discuss the hair loss history of the child and the look that you desire. We will also talk about the lifestyle and hobbies of the child to ensure which services will be manageable in your daily routines. We will examine the scalp and any natural hair to ensure in the consultation and advise which services we believe to be suitable.

We will then measure the circumference of the child's head and provide a wig cap for the child to try on. This is to ensure we get the best possible fit and the child is happy with that size and it feels comfortable.

Once we have the measurements, we will then discuss hair colour of the wig. If the child has natural hair then we can use colour matching swatches to get the closest match. Majority of children's hair colour is darker at the roots and lighter at the ends. It is extremely hard to match these tones over pictures so we always recommend a face to face consultation provides the closest match and most realistic results. We do have the option for an online consultation for those that can not travel to our hair salon in Failsworth, Manchester. However we can not guarantee an exact colour match as pictures give off different tones in different light.

Please ensure that you read our aftercare advice before your appointment as this is a great time to go over any questions that you may have. If you are happy after all of this we can then send the wig cap and donated hair to the wig makers for them to work their magic. It takes approximately 60 hours/2weeks for the wig makers to knot all of the strands onto the wig cap. So we can look at dates around 3 weeks after the consultation for you to come back for the wig fitting.

It costs our charity on average £500 for one wig to be made and majority of this is the wig makers labour costs, who very kindly give us a huge discount for the children. If for any reason once the child receives the wig that you find they do not want to wear it anymore, please get in contact with us and we will happily have this returned to us.

THE FITTING

Little Lady Locks Salon has a very relaxed and welcoming environment. Like the consultation, the wig fitting is completed in the private treatment room. Each wig fitting time is approximately 1 hour and usually consists of the following:

  • 5-30minutes - Welcome Chat with Olivia: Some parents may have already spoken to  'Ollie' and know that she was previously a Little Lady herself who came to our charity for help and received our services. Ollie is 19years old now and still has Alopecia and wears a wig. She is great for having an informal chat with the child just explaining how she is getting on with hair loss and wearing a wig. She has some great tips and tricks. Ollie will go over aftercare and cover any questions that you may have. Please note that if your child is shy and you do not think they will benefit from a long appointment then this of course is absolutely fine, we can discuss this beforehand over the telephone.
  • 15-30minutes - Fitting with Ashley or Ollie: The second part of the fitting will be trying the new wig on the mirror is usually covered so the child has a wonderful surprise once fitted correctly. f you prefer before If your child may be uncomfortable with this then again please make us aware and we can accommodate for this. Majority of our wigs are custom made to the Childs natural density and thickness but you do have the option to have any additional cuts or styles on the day of the fitting free of charge. The application is pain free and should feel lightweight on the Childs head. The result is a gentle but a secure and comfortable.
